Meeting Minutes for SWAI, 6 May 2010
Present
David E, Yiannis, Glen, Tatsuya, Dan
Agenda
- Test framework and test development continued
- HAL update
- Openflowj: David's Java controller update (maybe)
Meeting Minutes
Testing
Introduced the new OpenFlow Testing Initiative. This is just an idea right now, but the intention is to provide a repository of development work to which all parties doing OpenFlow switch and controller development can contribute. This comes about after a meeting with some Google test engineers who are interested in the OFTest framework.
Although this means (if successful) that we'll get a lot of benefit from more people generating tests, in the short term it means that we really need to get all of our basic test cases written and running. So that becomes a priority.
HAL
Discussed the current HAL approach. There seemed to be a consensus that the proposal as it stands introduces a significant amount of complexity without necessarily a lot of gain; in particular, it introduces a generic L3 machine abstraction that then needs to be translated to specific hardware.
openflowj
David E gave a short intro to his work with openflowj. We're hoping for a demo, maybe integrated with mininet next week. It looks great and the benefits of usability, peformance and dynamism seem pretty clear.
